Books and Black Coffee was started in 2021, post COVID-19. There may have been many people who were skeptical about visiting a physical location following the pandemic but our owner needed that nostalgic feeling upon entering a bookstore. Relocating to Hinesville, GA, where there was no bookstore available, with the nearest store being one hour away (on a good day with no traffic), the idea of Books and Black Coffee was created.
Shonesha, Founder and CEO, decided to bring a local indie bookstore to the community. Always having had a passion for books and reading, she enjoyed the idea of owning her own store. Initially throwing the idea out and speaking with a large amount of people in the community and her close family and friends, she received an overwhelming amount of support from everyone and that was all the confirmation she needed.
Books and Black Coffee pledges to always serve you first as the customer. We welcome all bookworms and people who love a great cup of coffee and especially the ones who loves both together creating the perfect combination. In addition, we hope to provide our customers with access to the world of knowledge that our wide variety of books offer here within our online bookstore. We strive to provide an experience that will stick with you forever. In hopes that you will return, not just as a customer, but as someone who is now a part of the Books and Black Coffee family.
Books and Black Coffee is proudly owned and operated as a woman, minority, veteran owned business. We welcome you to a place where books and people meet.
Meet The CEO
Shonesha is a Wisconsin native, born and raised in Racine. She has an educational background in Accounting and Business working towards her Doctorate degree alongside entrepreneurship.
Shonesha has always had a passion for reading and has been very proud of her book smart and nerdy ways. Throughout high school she ensured to be an A and B student up through graduation. Shortly after graduating high school, Shonesha became interested in joining the military.
In 2015, Shonesha decided to join the Army and served 6 years active duty. During her 6-year term she’s traveled many different places to include 7 different countries in Europe while on deployment in 2017. Although Shonesha didn’t choose to retire from the service, she is still a proud veteran and very grateful for the unique experience and skill set she gained while serving. It was a place that taught her resilience and where she’s met some of her dearest friends.
You can find Shonesha somewhere reading one of her favorite books with her very complicated go to coffee order alongside it. Shonesha also likes to workout and spend time with her family when she’s not so busy with school and running a business.
